We received a nice thank you letter from Cindy Dubois, the President of Central Maine Adaptive Sports. The board members decided to use our recent donation for a scholarship. Each student costs approximately $200.00 to be in the program and this will help a student who has little to no funds. Way to go Sno Gypsies!

While a successful presentation was made to the Auburn City Council, it doesn't look good for trail funding. The City is looking to trim $1 Million from the budget and if a Fire Station has to go, well, I'm sure the trail fund would go before the fire station. Will keep you updated as time goes on.

Thank you Land Owners and Club volunteers for a wonderful, albeit short, snowmobiling season.

At the meeting on March 17th, Officers for 2010 - 2011 were elected... Rene, Fred, Jerry and Matt will carry on and in addition, Kevin was elected Trail Master with Francis being the Assistant. Congratulations and thank you for your contributions!
Fred Taylor was the winner of the Pot of Gold. Unfortunatly, Fred was not in attendance (what?) and the amount rolls over to the next meeting.
If you can spare some time to help pick up signs and lock the gates on the trails, there is a group effort happening on Saturday the 20th. If you can't make it on Saturday, call Rene or Kevin to see what areas didn't get taken care of and you can go out on your own.
A 10 minute presentation to the City Council will occur on March 22nd. If you can, please come and show your support.
Cain's Quest was cancelled due to ice conditions on the route. Very disappointing for the competitors and what a surprise the area doesn't have good ice! Amazing. The Club voted to allow Team DSN to keep the donation and apply it to next year's event.
The MSA Annual Meeting & Banquet is on Saturday, April 10th and held at the Ramada Conference Center here Lewiston. It's a great opportunity to see MSA at work and socialize with the different Maine Snowmobile Clubs. There is a cost associated with the event and the deadline to reserve your spot is April 2nd! See Page 9 in your copy of 'The Maine Snowmobiler' March 2010 issue for more information.
Meetings usually adjourn for the year in March, but one additional meeting is being called for April 7th to provide an update on the outcome of the City Council efforts and plan the end of the year party.

Another well attended meeting was held on Jan. 20th. Thanks to all who were there... and welcome to our new members!
Two Club Rides were added to the calendar. The first is THIS WEEKEND, on the 23rd. The next one is the following week as part of Auburn Winter Festival week gets under way. Check out the
Calendar of Events for more information.
When in Mt. Apatite on the multi-use trail, be watchful for cross-country skiers, snowshoers and hikers (some with their pets) BUT especially on Saturday, the 30th between 10 AM to Noon as the Androscoggin Land Trust will be leading snowshoers through the park as part of their Winter Fest activities.
Mark your calendar to support the Club at the Auburn City Council Meeting on February 1st. More details to follow.
The member's name picked for the Pot of Gold was Francis Gorey, and ... HE WAS PRESENT. Francis walked out of the meeting with $60+ in his pocket. YAY.

The meeting on January 6th was well attended ~ nice to see you all! A few of us even arrived on our sleds! Unfortunately, the Pot of Gold winner was not, therefore the money rolls over to next meeting and is over $50.00 now. Come to the next meeting on the 20th and see how lucky you might be!
The Poker Run is a go for our 4th year.
After some discussion about the pros and cons, we decided to set the date Saturday, February 20th with a start time of Noon so mark your calendars.
Phyllis is once again the Chairperson for the event. The format of the Poker Run will be the same although Kevin is looking into a new route to keep the sledding and driving interesting for our repeat participants.
Volunteers are desperately needed. Even if you only have 30 minutes to give over this next month, we can use you.
- Flyers will be available for the meeting on the 20th. These flyers are to be posted in every local business we can think of. It's very easy to keep a stack handy and bring them into the establishments you frequent and ask if they'll put it up in a window or on a bulletin board. The worst they can say is no... If you can't make the meeting, I can mail 10 - 15 flyers directly to you.
- If you have contacts with business people with billboards, ask if they can give us some free publicity. ESM and Gee & Bee Sporting Goods did just that last year for the couple of weeks leading up to the event.
- Help is needed to put laminate 'poker run' signs on stakes. These are used in the trails to direct the sledders to the next stop.
- The volunteer meal after the poker run could use a few pot luck items. Mary and Rose are in charge.
- We need to ask the local businesses to donate a prize or gift certificate for the cause.
- Kevin will be doing trail work.
On the day of the Poker Run
- I need TWO people at each stop. There are FIVE stops. That means TEN volunteers are needed just for the Noon to 4 timeframe. Some people have already volunteered to run a stop but more is needed. It's easy and fun, but dress warm!
- A couple of people are needed to help me set up for registration
- Two people are needed from 11:30 AM to 2 PM to register participants.
- One person is needed from 2 PM to 3PM to answer questions and touch base with the folks out at the stops.
- Two people are needed to verify the participants' Poker hand starting at 3 PM
And that is just the beginning of what is needed. Come to the next meeting or call 783-8037 if you can lend a hand.

and check out this website called Hardcore Sledder (HCS).

Kevin recommended it as it is a cool forum for snowmobilers to share information on different topics ranging from sleds to trails. When on the site you can click on the different tabs to explore the different issues in the sport.

Mary is our MSA Western Region Representative and she coordinated the Regional Meeting which was held at the Auburn Public Library on December 10th. Well done Mary!
Rose, Mary and Roy working at the Regional Meeting
In addition, Mary and Roy spent a lot of time at the Central Maine Community College Winter Sports Event on the first weekend of December. They were able to sell a few MSA Super Raffle Tickets which puts money into the club!
Hope you booked your calendar for the Christmas Party which is being held on December 16th at Gippers! Ho, Ho, Ho. If we don't see you there have a very Merry Christmas.
Major Trail Change!
All riders make note there is a major change in our trail system near the Androscoggin Fish & Game. A rifle range now occupies the space formally used as the trail.
A new trail is already underway, with Land Owner's Permission.
Imagine are coming back into Auburn, heading towards Taylor Pond or the Club House. In the past, at the Fish & Game area you had a choice of going straight to cross Perkins Ridge Road and go down the Yacht Club Road to Taylor Pond... OR you could turn right and head to the Club House.
That RIGHT turn no longer exists.
The new trail to get back to the Club House now starts just after crossing Jackson Hill Road.
Where once you had one choice to travel, you have two!
Here Rene is directing you to the new trail that will take you to the Club House.
If you go left... you end up at Fish & Game where your only choice will be to cross Perkins Ridge and head to Taylor Pond.
So, thanks to many fine people - you CAN get there from here!

Summer time work nights
Informal work nights are going to be held on Wednesday's through the summer from 6 PM to 8 PM. Mostly to work on mechanical and / or equipment fixes and upgrades. Call Rene to find out the 'what' and 'where' if you have a couple of hours to spend.
The first one happened on the 10th and a few guys, young and old, arrived to work on the brush hog.
Thanks Francis, Matt, Dwayne, Andy, Rene, Kevin and Dawson (yup - Dawson made an appearance and by all accounts must have been bored because he slept through a lot of it! LOL) tore apart the brush hog. Analyzed what needed to be done to get it in working order and are continuing the process to get it set up. I suspect putting it together is on the agenda for this Wednesday.
Land Owner Appreciation BBQ
In conjunction with the Perkins Ridge Sno Travelers, we will participate in a BBQ to tell our landowners thank you for allowing us to use their land.
The date is Saturday, July 18th (rain date is the 19th) at Dan Bilodeau's place in North Auburn.
Check back for more details, but mark your calendar today!
MSA Maine Snowmobile Show
At the Augusta Civic Center is on October 2 - 4, 2009.
